About
I am Darshan Manjare, a Mumbai-based visual artist whose work is deeply inspired by the landscapes, traditions, and people of rural India. Growing up in a farming community, I developed a strong connection to the land, which continues to shape my artistic vision. My practice spans painting, sculpture, terracotta, and textiles, blending traditional techniques with contemporary expression. I hold a BFA and MFA in Painting from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, and my work has been showcased in India and internationally, including Clean Slate (Jamaat Art Gallery, 2024), Line Laid on a Liminal Land (TAK Contemporary, 2024), and Rivers and Road: Meandering Stories of India (AAIE Center for Contemporary Art, Rome, 2023). I have participated in residencies such as Arthshila × Khoj, Hissa Art Residency, and Apre Art Residency, and have been part of socially engaged projects like For Every Mother in India with the Swiss Embassy. My work has earned recognition through awards such as the Late Shri Ved Anil Abhage Best Painting Award (2022), Artist Gopal Adivrekar Award (2019), and Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award (2018). Through my art, I aim to preserve and reinterpret the narratives of India’s rural heartlands, celebrating their timeless beauty while engaging with their evolving identity.
